    Hello,

    Welcome to your Client Guide

    YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

    momentaryvisuals-69.JPG

I think a lot about 'time'.

I guess time is what draws me to photography, the idea you can freeze time with a photograph and revisit it, I mean really revisit it - feel like you're back there, feeling all the emotions again, like time travelling through life.

Time, and love and well... now my baby girls.

    That's why I do what I do.

    The Person

A deep thinker, a deep feeler.

I'm driven by passion, love of life, and my mushy heart.

I have a great family, deep long-lasting friendships, the most incredible partner and two gorgeous girls., Pearl and Mabel.

When I'm not at a shoot, editing or doing admin I am with them, belly laughing, playing, bum tapping, rocking and shhing (Mum's will get that).

    The Story

Momentary Visual's was born in January 2020, the sole purpose back then was to feed my obsession.

I'd finally bought a nice camera, a present to myself for getting my wisdom teeth out, something to think about in the chair and make opting to be awake worth it, something I had always wanted. My creativity went wild, I was asking family and friends constantly if I could photograph them. I remember wanting to reach out to strangers to ask could I photograph them too, but that felt a little weird. 'How can I take photos of people, without being weird?' I remember thinking. And the obvious answer dawned on me.

My business was born and it grew, with love and passion anything is possible.

I followed my heart with one foot in front of the other, and before I knew it I was a photographer, investing in education, upgrading my equipment... and the big one, cutting back from my full time office job and eventually quitting completely. It happened authentically, organically and it always just felt... right.

    PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE

connection, authenticity, raw emotion, relaxed, artistic

My sessions are all about YOU.

Who you are as people, as a couple, a parent, as a family.

I want to create visual art that you look back on tomorrow, next year and 10 or 20 years time and feel the emotions you felt in the moment.

There is a little bit of posing, and lots of prompting, usually at the start, to make everyone feel comfortable.

I know having your photo taken can be daunting. And I promise, it is always so much easier than expected!

The aim of the game is to forget your photo is been taken at all and to lose yourself in the moment with your loved ones, snuggle up, play, be silly and giggle.

Just really soak up and enjoy the moment, and let everything else, including myself, fade into the background.

    STYLING ADVICE

First and foremost, I am going to say wear something that is YOU.

These are your memories that I want you to love.

Choosing something that you're going to feel confident and comfortable in is important.

Then build your families outfits around yours'.

If your session involves extended family, make sure you are discussing your outfits and sticking to a colour theme.

Ultimately how you dress should reflect how you want your images to look and feel.

You might wear comfy lounge wear at home for a cosy natural feel, or you might doll up to feel a million bucks.

    Colours and Patterns:

Think different shades of browns, creams, whites... these tones usually compliment the environment we shoot in and my editing style.

Keeping it simple will age well too, you won't look back years down the track when the trends have changed a million times and think "what on earth was I wearing?"

Patterns can add some character, however too many patterns feels a little too busy. If one family member is wearing a pattern, build the other families outfits around that, using the colours in the pattern.

    Accessories:

Adding 'props' or accessories to our session can help change the feel of our final images and tie your story together. Think an umbrella on a drissily rugged up day, moving boxes in a new home session, a blanket or throw to wrap around the family or cuddle in the grass on, popping champagne or having a drink from a coffee mug or wine glasses.

    Texture:

Adding clothing that has texture brings more depth to your images.

    Think knitted items, corduroy, lace.

    THINGS TO AVOID:

    • Remove any smart watches like Garmens, Apple watches, Fitbits...

    • Take any hair ties and scruntchies off your wrists

    • Remove your sunglasses

    • No bulky items in your pockets

    • Avoid busy clashing or conflicting outfit choices and colours

    • Avoid obvious logo's and print on clothing

    Maternity Inspo

The gallery below is a compilation of some of my Maternity sessions with clients, featuring a mix of in home sessions, outdoor locations and studio.

I invite you to take inspiration for your session, remembering we will also get creative together and make your images personal to you.

After years of working with maternity clients I have come to understand how wildly different everyone experiences their pregnancies.

Although, it wasn't until I was pregnant myself I realised how personal that experience can be.

As all of my sessions, your maternity photos are raw and intimate to YOU. I am here to bring artistically capture this indescribable time in your life working with what you are comfortable with, and what you want to capture.

I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone with absolutely no pressure on what that entails. For some, I understand booking the shoot itself is out of their comfort zone already.

    Home Diaries

    momentaryvisuals-629.jpg

    REAL LIFE // REAL YOU

'Home Diaries' is a series born from the heart, for the heart.

A powerful, raw, unplanned, unposed, in the moment approach at documenting life within your home, within this moment. Whatever that might look like for you.

In your Home Diary, we pull away from the perfectly curated outfits, the spotless house and toys tidied into their toy box, we remove that very small but ever present barrier between lifestyle 'natural' imagery, and just life 'natural' art.

The aim is to immerse yourself in the crazy and chaos, or the calm and quiet of your home.

Whether you're soaking in the tranquility of slow days resting and reading, or you're chasing small feet down the hallway I want to capture this phase in your life before you quickly find yourself in the next.

With kids, forget the outfit battles and let them pick their own, let them lead the way and just be in the moment with them, bake a cake, splash in a bubble bath, jump on the trampoline, cuddle on the couch, play in their toy room, ride their bike outside,  dance in a fairy costume...

Without kids? Light a candle, settle into your favourite spot on the couch with a book, potter in the garden, bake in the kitchen, knit or lose yourself in a hobby, scrub the shower, enjoy a cuppa or a wine..

Together, we'll create timeless, priceless art filled with emotion and nostalgia that look like your happiest days at home.

Make any in home session a Home Diary.

    In Home Sessions

In home sessions are relaxed, cosy and intimate.

Our homes are meaningful and very personal places.

The most common misconception about having a session with a Photographer at home is that your house has to be atheistically pleasing. No.

Your home is your home, and for that it's already perfect.

Trust me when I say, NOBODY can tell if your house isn't completely vacuumed or the skirting boards have a bit of dust. Please do not feel pressure to have your home display home ready, especially if you have just had a baby. Simply clear some clutter and move any items you do not want included into a room you know you don't want to use during the session.

    Tips to prepare:

    • Think about any meaningful pieces in your home that you would like included. (A special place in the home, or a special item)

    • Open curtains and blinds - the more natural light the better

    • Hide anything that you do not want included in the images (a washing basket of clothes to fold, etc)

    • For newborns, make sure your home is nice and toasty warm for them (not too warm) and gather any sentimental clothes, blankets, name plagues etc that you want included.

    • Light a candle or put on a diffuser to relax

    • Make sure you're ready early so you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or have a wine or beer and sit down and relax.

    During your session:

    • When I arrive we will start by having a look around your home and discussing the best spots to shoot, these places will be chosen based on lighting, practicality and meaning.

    • When needed I will move things out of the frame  or slightly rearrange decor in your home to put it in the frame - I will always ask before doing so.

    • Remember the point of having an in home session is to capture your life as it is now in the home you live - do not feel like you need to make your home look drastically different to how it looks in day to day life.

    Outdoor Sessions

    DSC-35.jpg

We are so lucky to be surrounded by so much beautiful landscape.

When choosing an outdoor location, I always start by asking my clients is there somewhere meaningful to you and your family?

That could be a beach you holiday at, a local park you visit often, a family farm you grew up on, bushland you like to walk at or somewhere something sentimental has taken place.

Then, I always ask, what speaks to you as a family more, beach, bush, park or open field?

I like clients to consider the moments they'll be making at this location, how comfortable will they and their family feel there?

    DSC-54.jpg

    Tips to prepare:

    • Consider the practicality of our chosen location when choosing footwear

    • Searh, or if possible, visit the location before the day of your session to ensure you know what to expect
    • Dress your kids to the temperature, if they are too warm or too cold they won't be able to relax and be themselves
    • If you are braving raw or water photos please remember to bring a towel and a change of clothes to travel home in
    • Make sure you stop for a toilet break on the way, not all locations have amenities

    Golden Hour

Golden Hour is the hour after sunrise, and the hour before sunset. For Lifestyle photography, it is the most desirable time to shoot outdoors, and it has a huge effect on the outcome of your images. During golden hour, the natural light is soft, flattering and well.. golden. The timing of Golden Hour can be hard with young kids, but trust me when I say, the result is worth!

There is a few things you can do prepare your kids for a late afternoon session:

    • Have a chill day leading up to the session

    • Talk to your kids about the session and the location and build excitement

    • Bring snacks and try to avoid napping on the way

    Studio Sessions

Momentary Visuals Studio is a small, intimate natural light home studio in Drouin created as a relaxed and intimate space to capture timeless portraits of you and your deep connections.

Due to its small size, it is best suited to Newborn sessions, Parenthood sessions, Sibling sessions or individual Child sessions. It is not the most suitable space for Family Sessions.

Because of the natural light nature of the studio, these sessions take place during the day only.

The studio opened in March 2022 and aims to be ever flowing and ever changing as I follow creative ideas and pulls.

    Tips to prepare:

    • The studio is mainly white, brown and cream tones - to avoid clashing it is best to choose tones that match or compliment these when choosing your outfits

    • The studio is a small space where lots of love and cuddles are encouraged - we also embrace playfulness and can follow your child's lead/mood within the session.

    • The studio is a no shoes area so prepare for this when choosing your outfits

    • Please park in the gravel area to the side of the driveway to avoid blocking in other vehicles

    LEGALITIES

I'm putting this here, front and centre because often people skim the contract and don't fully understand what they are agreeing to. You could potentially unknowingly and unmeaningly be breaking the law and exploiting my small business! Yikes.

Please reach out to me if you would like any clarifications on any points in our contract.

    Sharing the images

I LOVE seeing my clients share the photos from our session on their social media, when I get a tagged notification I jump on as quickly as I can to see which ones they've chosen to show the world!
